MAY 17
– May 21 Race
for Education Week! Race for Education is this Friday. Since it is already gym for us, we will change into our
gym clothes for the race! Don’t forget tennis shoes! J Math: If a student has to retake a math quiz, we will make
them up the next
day. Our ice cream party will be Friday, May 28th so we need to have
finished all of our facts up
to 10! They are doing a great job and I am very proud of
everyone! Monday Spelling Words: No Spelling Words! We are working
on special book report task cards daily. They
are fun and very educational. If you are interested in a copy to use over the
summer, send me a note or email and I will make you a copy. Simple Solutions Math &

Quiz (# 129 – 132) Math facts quiz 7’s Something sweet is about to happen in first
grade!!!!! The students will be given a
few minutes to write down the answers to the facts on their sheet of paper. This
Wednesday, we will start with ones. ( 1 + 1 = _____ ) All of the one’s math facts will be on there up to ten.
Flash cards are being sent home in their binders for you to practice the facts
with them. They must get
all of the answers correct to move to the next test. So, for example, if they
do not get all of the one’s math facts
correct on Wednesday, they will take it again with the two’s test on Friday. ( Additional time
will be given to those students.) If
they get 2 behind on tests, they will be able to take the test during silent
reading to catch up with the class. The tests will be graded and sent home the
day they are given so you
will know if you need to practice that test with them before they need to
retake it. For every set of tests passed, they
will earn a part of an ice cream sundae. ( one’s will
earn you a napkin, two’s will earn you a spoon, three’s will
earn you a dish, four’s will earn the first scoop of ice cream, etc. )When all
of the tests are passed, we will have an
ice cream sundae party during the last week of May or last week of school. The
date will be set for sure soon and will
be posted on here! I am very excited for this and the students are too! Remember this can be a very fun
experience! Practice facts every chance you can! During breakfast, on the ride
to school, during dinner, or during commercials
for extra minutes of T.V. time! Make a special time where facts are reviewed
every night. If you have any questions or concerns, please
email me! Have fun! J |
